
DHAKA, March 4, 2026 (BSS) - Members of the Bangladesh Coast Guard seized 1.5 lakh pieces of yaba tablets worth approximately Taka 7.5 crore and arrested a suspected drug trader in two separate operations in Teknaf of Cox's Bazar district early Wednesday.
Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan confirmed the matter in a statement issued Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Coast Guard, acting on a tip-off, personnel from the Teknaf Coast Guard Station conducted a special drive around 4:00am in the area adjacent to Zero Point Sea-Beach Ghat under Teknaf Police Station in Cox's Bazar.
During the operation, they recovered 1.40 lakh yaba tablets worth about Taka 7 crore from an abandoned location. However, no arrests were made at that time as the suspected smugglers managed to flee sensing the presence of law enforcers.
Coast Guard members carried out another drive around 5am in the Marine Drive area adjacent to Zero Point under Teknaf Police Station. During the operation, they searched a suspicious easy bike and arrested one alleged drug smuggler. A total of 10,000 Yaba tablets worth approximately Taka 50 lakh were seized from his possession.
The Coast Guard said that necessary legal action is underway regarding the seized drugs, the easy bike used in smuggling, and the detained individual.
Authorities reiterated their commitment to continuing anti-drug operations in the coastal region to curb narcotics trafficking.
