4 sentenced to six months jail for illegal land cutting in Tangail

TANGAIL, March 4, 2026 (BSS) - A mobile court has sentenced four individuals to six months' imprisonment for illegally cutting soil in Sakhipur upazila of the district.

The drive was conducted late Tuesday night at Innat Kha village under Hateya Rajabari union by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Abdullah Al Roni. Acting on allegations of unlawful land cutting, the mobile court detained four individuals from the spot and later handed down the jail sentences.

The convicts are Md. Jahangir Alam, 37, son of Aynal Haque of Nayapara area in Mirzapur upazila, Abul Kalam Azad, 42, son of Raham Ali Sikder of Innat Kha village, Al-Amin Mallik, 24, son of Nurul Islam Mallik of Beltoil area and Milon, 24, son of Nazrul Islam of Banshoil area.

According to the UNO, the accused were found involved in illegal soil cutting in violation of the Land Amendment Act-2023. Following a summary trial through the mobile court, each was sentenced to six months in prison and sent to jail.

The UNO said that such operations against illegal land cutting would continue regularly to protect agricultural land and the environment.
