GAZIPUR, March 4, 2026 (BSS) - Police have arrested two individuals, including the elder brother of a 13-year-old madrasah student, in connection with the murder of the boy in Gazipur district.
According to police, the victim, Abdur Rahim, 13, went missing on February 1 after 6:30 pm from Dogri Nayapara area under Joydebpur Police Station. Rahim was a sixth-grade student at Nayapara Ebadia Dakhil Madrasah and the son of Nurul Islam.
After searching in various locations, Rahim's father filed a general diary with Joydebpur Police Station on February 3. Nearly 25 days later, on February 26, police recovered a half-decomposed body buried in a deep forest on the south side of Banshari Resort in Bikebari Padmapara area under Joydebpur Police Station.
The body was sent to the morgue of Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital, where Rahim's father identified him by his clothing. A case was filed with Joydebpur Police Station on February 27, and SI (retd) Md. Mozammel Haque was assigned to investigate.
Gazipur District Police Superintendent Md. Sharif Uddin disclosed details of the case at a press conference held at his office today. Senior police officials, including Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Md. Abu Khair and other department heads, were present.
Police investigation revealed that Rahim had been insisting on buying a mobile phone from his father. Angered over the issue, his elder brother, Alamin Hossain, 23, allegedly took Rahim to a forested area on the afternoon of February 1, accompanied by his friend Ashiq Ahmed, 20.
Investigators said Rahim was tied to a tree with a muffler and scotch tape was placed over his face. When the boy reportedly attempted to inform his father about the matter, Alamin allegedly strangled him to death. The suspects then dug a hole near the spot, buried the body, and burned the victim's jacket in an attempt to destroy evidence.
Police arrested Alamin Hossain and Ashiq Ahmed in a drive conducted in the Mirzapur area under Joydebpur Police Station on Tuesday morning. According to law enforcement officials, the accused have given confessional statements in court.
Superintendent of Police Sharif Uddin said the case had been treated with utmost importance since Rahim's disappearance. He added that the mystery was unraveled with the help of information technology and assured that efforts are ongoing to arrest anyone else involved.
