KHULNA, Mar 5, 2026 (BSS) - Tailoring shops in Khulna are witnessing growing work pressure as orders for Eid garments continue to rise during the holy month of Ramadan.
Visits to tailoring shops in Dakbanglow and Railway Hawkers Market areas today showed workers busy sewing, pressing and packaging shirts, pants and other garments to meet the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr demand.
Workers said they are working long hours to prepare dresses for men, women and children so that customers can receive their outfits before Eid. Many shop owners said they are planning to accept orders until around the 25th of Ramadan due to increased demand this year compared to the previous year.
However, several tailor owners noted that the expansion of ready-made garment brands in the local market has significantly affected their businesses.
Manager of Student Tailors at Akhtar Chamber Market Shantanu told BSS orders have started coming in, though the volume remains moderate. He expects orders to increase in the coming week when salaried employees receive their Eid bonuses.
He said tailoring charges have remained unchanged for the past three years, with shirts costing around Tk 500 and pants Tk 600 for stitching, despite a rise in fabric prices.
Bidhu Sardar, proprietor of New Fops Tailors, said his 30 workers are working day and night to deliver Eid dresses on time. "Many customers still prefer tailored shirts and pants for a better fit," he said.
Cloth traders reported satisfactory sales ahead of Eid. Javed, owner of ABCO Cloth Store, said Chinese and Indian fabrics has high demand in the market, while Pakistani fabrics have also gained popularity this year, especially for Panjabi and Kabli suits.
Customers said they prefer early shopping to avoid last-minute crowds at markets and tailoring shops. Some buyers are also opting for customised designs such as embroidered Shalwar-Kameez.
Tailors working on subcontract said work pressure has increased sharply in recent days. Many workers are now working from morning until late at night to complete orders before Eid.
Shop owners and traders expect orders for both fabrics and tailoring services to increase further in the coming week as Eid approaches.
