DINAJPUR, March 5, 2026 (BSS)-A member of an inter-district robber gang was arrested by police from Bochaganj upazila here today and seized cash and country made weapons from his possession.  

The arrested robber was identified as Abdul Barek, 55, who was detained by Bochaganj police from his home at Akhapur village under the upazila. Abdul Barek is wanted in nine cases of robbery, snatching and theft filed across various police stations of the district including Bochaganj.

Police stated that on January 11, three night guards at the Northern Electricity Supply Company (NESCO) office in Bochaganj were tied up during a robbery. Abdul Barek and his accomplices were named in the case. 

Acting on secret information,  a team led by Sub Inspector Abul Kalam Azad conducted the raid at Akhapur village and arrested him  at around 2.30 pm.

During the drive police recovered cash amounting to TK four lakh , a machete used for robbery, seven iron rods, an iron rod with a handle, a lock-cutting iron clip , a pair of black full pants and a monkey cap from his house.

Arrested Abdul Barek was produced before  Dinajpur Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Court later. Police have applied for remand to interrogate him further and bring other members of the inter-district robbery gang to justice.
