
THAKURGAON, March 5, 2026 (BSS) - A fertilizer and pesticide shop in Sadar upazila was fined Taka 20,000 for storing expired pesticides and failing to display price, production, and expiry dates on product packets.
The penalty was imposed on Thursday afternoon during a mobile court operation conducted in the Thakurgaon Sugar Mill Market area, organized by the Sadar Upazila Agriculture Office.
The shop, Ms. Sonamani Traders, was found in violation of Section 37 of the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009.
The mobile court led by Sadar Upazila Executive Magistrate and Assistant Commissioner (Land) Ashadul Haque. Officials present included Additional Agriculture Officer Krishibid Niharanjan Roy, Sadar Upazila Agriculture Extension Officer Abu Abdullah Al Mujahid, and Deputy Assistant Plant Protection Officer Abdul Khalek Sarkar.
Speaking at the site, Ashadul Haque emphasized that the sale of expired pesticides can cause significant losses to farmers' agricultural production. He added that such mobile court initiatives will continue to ensure that no fertilizer or pesticide dealer engages in harmful practices.
