NAOGAON, March 5, 2026 (BSS) - Markets in the district are now buzzing with enthusiastic shoppers as they flock to buy new clothes and accessories ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr.
From early morning until midnight, markets across the town are crowded with buyers searching for their preferred outfits within their budgets.
Major shopping areas including Ananda Bazar–Gitanjali Shopping Complex, Dewan Bazar, Islam Market and Kapalpatti are experiencing a surge in customer turnout. From roadside stalls to large retail stores, traders report steady sales and growing demand as Eid approaches.
This year, buyers are showing a notable preference for locally produced clothing. Ready-made garment shops are witnessing particularly strong sales.
According to traders, there are around 200 large and small garment shops in Naogaon town, generating daily sales of nearly Taka one crore during the Eid shopping season.
Although there is no specific fashion trend dominating the market this year, a variety of clothing options are available. Tops for both children and adults are priced between Taka 800 and Taka 3,000. Three-piece outfits fall within a similar price range, while Garara and Sharara sets range from Taka 2,000 to Taka 6,000. Jamdani sarees are selling for Taka 800 to Taka 3,000, Tangail handloom sarees for Taka 1,000 to Taka 3,500, and silk sarees for Taka 3,000 to Taka 5,000.
Many shoppers have chosen to begin their Eid shopping early to avoid the rush in the final days of Ramadan.
Shamsul Haque, who came from Katkhoir village in Sadar upazila with his family, said he preferred shopping early to escape the crowd. “Prices of quality products are naturally a bit higher, but overall they are similar to last year. I bought clothes for four members of my family for about Taka 5,000,” he said.
Meanwhile, cloth merchants say wholesale sales were completed within the first ten days of Ramadan, and the current market activity mainly involves retail purchases. Shahin Hossain, a cloth merchant at Mosque Market, said that customers are buying fabric and taking it to tailors for custom-made outfits.
Business owners remain optimistic about the upcoming festive season. Abdus Salam, owner of Siddique Garmentor in Naogaon town, said sales began increasing from the 5th day of Ramadan and is expected to continue until the eve of Eid.
“Sales are better than last year. There is strong demand for clothing for girls, children and young women. We are making sales of around Taka 20,000 per day,” he said.
With Eid drawing nearer, traders expect the markets to become even more crowded, bringing further momentum to the festive shopping season.
