NARAIL, Mar 7, 2025 (BSS) - Markets across Narail town are witnessing a surge of shoppers as Eid-ul-Fitr approaches, with people thronging shopping centres and roadside markets in a festive mood to buy clothes and other essentials.

With around two weeks left before the biggest religious festival of Muslims, customers are crowding markets from morning till late at night, particularly at shops selling three-piece suits, sarees and other garments for family members.

During a visit to several shopping centres in the town large numbers of shoppers were seen browsing and buying Eid items.

Shopkeepers said sales have started increasing significantly after the 12th day of Ramadan as more people begin their Eid shopping.

Gobindo Shil, owner of Export House at Rupganj Bazar, said many customers are showing interest in locally produced brands of three-piece suits and other clothing items.

Rajib Saha of Chit Bichitra said budget-conscious shoppers are buying pant pieces, panjabi fabrics and locally made three-pieces from Rupganj Bazar, which has long been a popular shopping destination for low- and fixed-income groups.

Traditional sarees such as Tangail and Jamdani remain popular among women, while digital-print sarees have also attracted many buyers ahead of Eid, traders said.

Buyer Ripon Hossain said prices of various clothing items in the Eid markets are relatively affordable.

"I managed to buy different types of clothes within Tk 1,000 to Tk 3,000," he said.

Narail Deputy Commissioner Dr Mohammad Abdul Salam said the district administration is monitoring the Eid markets to ensure fair prices and prevent adulteration.

"We are monitoring the Eid markets closely. Officials are working so that people can celebrate Eid in a festive and comfortable environment," he said.
