
NARSINGDI, April 14, 2026 (BSS) - Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Husain today said health cards will be distributed across the country by June this year.
"We expect to move the nation forward in the new year. Overall, allocation for the health sector will be increased in the upcoming fiscal year's budget to ensure its substantial development," he said.
The minister made the remarks while inaugurating a traditional folk fair at the Manohardi Upazila Parishad premises in Narsingdi on the occasion of Pahela Baishakh.
Highlighting various government initiatives for public welfare, Md. Sakhawat said measures such as waiver of agricultural loans, allocation for the destitute, Test Relief (TR) and Kabikha programmes, and canal excavation have been undertaken.
Referring to efforts to control measles, he said vaccination campaigns are being carried out in 30 upazilas and four city corporations.
He added that from April 20, children across the country will be administered measles vaccines and Vitamin A capsules as part of a nationwide campaign. "We are working to contain the measles outbreak and hope it will be brought under control soon," he said.
Earlier, a colourful Baishakhi procession was brought out from the Upazila Parishad premises marking the Bengali New Year. The procession was attended by the health minister, local administration, BNP leaders and students from different schools and colleges.
