Govt takes responsibility for treatment of injured Kalapara health official

DHAKA, April 14, 2026 (BSS) - The government has taken full responsibility for the treatment of Kalapara Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer (UHFPO) of Patuakhali District Dr Shankar Prasad Adhikari, who was critically injured in a road accident.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Husain announced this while visiting him at the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital in Dhaka today.

The minister spoke with the doctor's family members and assured them of all-out support, expressing deep concern over the incident. 

He said Dr Adhikari was injured while performing official duties and specialists are making their maximum efforts to ensure his recovery.

Following the Prime Minister's directive, the government will bear all medical expenses, including those already incurred and future costs. 
Necessary arrangements will also be made if treatment abroad is required.

Dr Adhikari was injured in a motorcycle accident on April 12. 

After primary treatment in Patuakhali and Barishal, he was taken to Dhaka, where he underwent brain surgery the same night.

He is currently in the ICU and remains in critical condition.

Senior health officials were present during the visit.
