
RANGPUR, March 7, 2026 (BSS) - Marking the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr, literary, cultural and social organisation "Firedekha" distributed the 13th Eid gifts
among children and adolescents and awarded scholarship winners for the third time to meritorious female students from Rangpur region.
Eid gifts were distributed among more than two hundred children and adolescents from Rangpur city and various neighboring upazilas at a programme
organised at the Rangpur Zilla School Auditorium on Friday afternoon.
Boys were given pants and shirts and girls were given frocks.
The organisation has been conducting various social welfare activities along with literary and cultural activities with dedication for the last 13 years.
The main sponsor of the winning scholarship and this year's Eid gifts for children is the Vice-president of the Bank of America, mountaineer, poet and
novelist Cynthia Khan, who is an expatriate in the United States (US).
The event was attended, among others, by Additional DIG of Bangladesh Police and Commandant of Rangpur RRF Abdur Razzaque, writer and essayist Rezaul
Karim Mukul, Headmaster of Rangpur Zilla School Abul Kalam Azad, novelist Nargis Akhter Banu Jharna, leader of the Teesta Banchao Andolan and former
teacher of Rangpur Zilla School Safiar Rahman, poets Al Amin Islam, Fattahan Ali, Shafiqul Islam Abir, Mozammel Haque, Muntaha Marsi, members of Begum
Rokeya University unit 'Firedekha' Abdullah Al Asib, Sabrina Akhter and Arghya Zeb, among others.
'Firedekha' President Tapas Mahmud presided over the programme moderated by
its General Secretary Shakil Masud.
During this time, total Taka 2,40,000 scholarships were given to meritorious female students in Rangpur region. Each student received a scholarship of
Taka 24,000 for one year.
The scholarship recipients include Safa Sultana (English Department of Begum Rokeya University), Nupur Akhter (Education Department of Rangpur Government
Teachers Training College (RGTTC), Sangeeta Rani (Geography and Environmental Sciences Department of RGTTC), Sumaiya Mimtaz Swarna (English Department of
RGTTC), Rasna Akhter (Economics Department of RGTTC), Tasneem Athai (Rajshahi Medical College), and Mehezabeen Rahman Minati (Department of Ceramics And
Sculpture of Rajshahi University).
Speakers at the programme praised this initiative of the 'Firedekha' organization and the humanitarian work of its sponsor Cynthia Khan.
They said such an initiative by Cynthia Khan is encouraging children and talented female students of Rangpur region to move forward.
On the other hand, there was joy in the eyes and faces of the children after receiving new clothes on the occasion of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr festival.
After distributing gifts and giving scholarships in a lively atmosphere, the programme was declared over in the evening.
