Drive against overpricing of oil-gas, 2 traders fined

RAJSHAHI, March 7, 2026 (BSS)- Upazila administration conducted a price 
monitoring drive on oil and gas at Taherpur Municipal Market in Bagmara 
upazila of the district today.

During the monitoring, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Saiful Islam Bhuiya 
fined two traders Taka 1,500 for selling LPG gas at prices higher than the 
government-fixed rate.
 
Later, two cases were also filed in this regard under relevant sections of 
the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009, according to the concerned 
administration.
 
Assistant Commissioner (Land) Saiful Islam Bhuiya said that taking advantage 
of the ongoing war and crisis in the Middle East, a group of dishonest 
traders has been trying to extort extra money from consumers.
 
After becoming aware of the matter, the Upazila administration decided to 
monitor the market.
 
As a result, two traders were fined for selling gas at higher prices.
 
He added that the drive will continue during the ongoing Ramadan and ahead of 
Eid so that the general public does not suffer.
