
DINAJPUR, March 7, 2026 (BSS) - Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested five alleged drug dealers in separate operations in Dinajpur district on Saturday and recovered 24 kilograms of marijuana and 299 bottles of Eskuf Indian syrup.
The information was confirmed in a press release issued around 4:00 pm by Additional Superintendent of Police Biplob Kumar Goswami, Senior Assistant Director of the Public Relations Department of RAB-13 Dinajpur Camp.
According to the release, a Dhaka-bound Mithun Paribahan bus was intercepted at the Ichamati Bridge in Ranirbandar under Chirirbandar upazila around 12:00 noon. Acting on a tip-off, a RAB team stopped and searched the coach on the Dinajpur–Rangpur highway. During the search, 24 kg of marijuana wrapped in black cloth was recovered from in front of a passenger seat.
Three passengers --Tuton Sarkar, 30, son of the late Laij Sarkar from Baralajakata village in Bhairab upazila of Kishoreganj district, Khokon Mia, 45, son of Khurshid Mia from Kalipara Shimulkandi village in the same district and Jamal Uddin, 48, son of Jalal Uddin from Kalipur village -- were arrested on charges of transporting and possessing the drugs.
In a separate operation earlier in the day, another RAB team conducted a raid at the house of Md. Roni Mia in Balandur village of Birol upazila around 10:00 am. During the raid, Roni and Tariqul Islam were arrested and 299 bottles of Indian intoxicating syrup were seized from their possession.
The arrested individuals were identified as Tariqul Islam, 27, son of Chaber Ali, and Md. Roni, 19, son of Rafiqul Islam, both residents of Balandur village in Birol upazila.
RAB officials said the five detainees were handed over to the respective police stations around 4:00 pm on Saturday. Two separate cases have been filed against them under the Narcotics Control Act.
