Minor boy drowns in Gopalganj

GOPALGANJ, March 7, 2026 (BSS) - A four-year-old boy drowned in a pond in Kotalipara upazila of the district on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Bihan Mondal, son of Nirmal Mondal of Ferdhara village of the upazila.

According to family members, the incident occurred at noon in Ferdhara village. When Bihan could not be found at home, relatives began searching for him in the surrounding area.

Nayan Mondal, the child’s aunt, said “While searching, we found his sandals floating in the pond on the south side of our house. We then began searching in the pond water,” she said.

Family members later recovered Bihan from the pond and rushed him to the Kotalipara Upazila Health Complex. However, on duty doctors declared him dead upon arrival.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Riyad Mahmud of Kotalipara Police Station confirmed the incident.
