Two held with firearm, bullets in Noakhali

NOAKHALI, March 7, 2026 (BSS) – Police in a drive arrested two people with a foreign-made pistol and two rounds of live ammunition from Kanchihata area under Begumganj upazila of the district.

The arrested individuals are Md. Farhad Islam Fahim, 20, and Tajul Islam Sumon, 34. Both are residents of Amanuullapur under Begumganj upazila of the district.

Confirming the arrest, Noakhali District Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance), Abu Tayyab Md. Arif Hossain, issued a press release on Saturday.

According to the release, a police team carried out the operation based on confidential information regarding warrants, drugs, and illegal weapons. During the operation, police intercepted three suspected individuals near Selim's Tea Shop at the Sardar Dighi Par intersection in Kanchihata, Amanuullapur union No. 1. While two suspects were captured, one managed to flee the scene.

Upon searching the arrested men, police recovered one foreign-made pistol, two rounds of fresh ammunition, a tin, and a magazine from Md. Farhad Islam Fahim. Police reports suggest that the men were in the area to establish their dominance and engage in the illegal trade of firearms.

A case has been filed under the Arms Act.
