Two killed, one injured in Jashore road accident

JASHORE, Mar 13, 2026 (BSS) - Two people were killed and another was seriously injured in a road accident at Bagharpara upazila of the district.

The accident occurred around 6:00 pm on Thursday at the Bhatar-Amtala area on the Jashore-Magura highway. 

The deceased were identified as Kabir, 30, and Hanif, 31, residents of Shatakhali village under Shalikha upazila of Magura district. 

The injured Ashik, 25, son of Hossain Ali of the same village, is in critical condition.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bagharpara Police Station Mahmudul Hasan said Kabir, Hanif and Ashik were travelling towards Magura from Khajura in Jashore on an engine-run van in the afternoon.

When they reached the Bhatar-Amtala area of Bagharpara upazila, their van collided head-on with a bus coming from the opposite direction.

The van was badly mangled in the crash and Kabir died on the spot. 

Locals rescued the other two and rushed them to Jashore General Hospital where the on-duty doctor at the emergency department declared Hanif dead.

Ashik, who sustained serious injuries in the accident, is currently undergoing treatment at Jashore General Hospital.

The OC said police are trying to identify the bus involved in the accident and legal action is underway in this regard.
