Child killed in road accident in Cox’s Bazar

COX'S BAZAR, Mar 18, 2026 (BSS)- A child was killed and four people injured in a road accident here today.

The accident took place around 12 noon at Whykong Jhimongkhali area on the Cox's Bazar–Teknaf Highway.

The deceased, Nahid Islam, 9, was the son of Mohammad Nur from Ali Akbar Para under Hnila Union in Teknaf Upazila.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Whykong thana Nurul Absar said the accident occurred when a bus and collided head on with an auto-rickshaw.

The auto-rickshaw was badly mangled injuring the child and several others.

Locals rescued the injured and took them to Hnila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared Nahid Islam dead.

He said the injured persons were admitted to the hospital. The bus involved in the accident has been seized, and legal proceedings are underway.
