DHAKA, March 18, 2026 (BSS) – BNP Secretary General and LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said the government is committed to implementing the July Charter.
“Within just one month of assuming office, the BNP-led government has already begun to make its electoral promises visible,” he said while exchanging views with journalists on contemporary issues at the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan in the capital.
The BNP secretary general responded to various questions regarding the current political situation in the country, the activities of Jatiya Sangsad, local government elections, the government’s achievements, appointments of vice-chancellors in different educational institutions, and the economic situation.
Announcing that the BNP’s national council will be held within this year, Mirza Fakhrul said date has not been fixed yet but he believes it will be held soon.
The party’s last council was held in 2016.
Mirza Fakhrul said whenever BNP comes to power, some kind of global crisis tends to arise.
This time, immediately after taking responsibility, a major crisis like the Iran-Israel conflict emerged, he said.
However, due to the government’s competence, there has been no shortage of fuel in the country, nor has the price of fuel increased, he said.
Highlighting various aspects of party activities, he said that alongside the new government’s activities, party activities are also progressing.
Work on local government elections is advancing rapidly, and the government plans to complete these elections as soon as possible within this year.
Evaluating the overall performance of the government, the LGRD minister said, “Within one month, we are seeing success in all sectors of the government. Our biggest challenge now is to rebuild and strengthen the country’s economy.”
