CUMILLA, March 19, 2026 (BSS) - A woman was killed as a tree fell on her house during a Nor'westers in Muradnagar upazila of the district around 8pm on Wednesday.

The deceased, Shefali Barman, 55, was the wife of Ranjan Chandra Barman of Dorikandi village under Jahapur union of the upazila.

According to family sources, during a sudden Nor'westers around 8pm, a large jackfruit tree beside her house collapsed onto the roof. At that time, she was having dinner. She was trapped under the tree and died on the spot.

After the storm stopped, locals rushed to the scene upon hearing the cries of family members and recovered her body, said the sources.
