Extra fare collection at Daulatdia; fines imposed

RAJBARI, March 19, 2026 (BSS) - A mobile court fined one bus owner and two “Mahendra” drivers a total of Taka 3,000 for collecting extra fares from homebound passengers at Daulatdia ghat in Rajbari.

On the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, a drive was conducted on Wednesday afternoon at Daulatdia ghat area in Rajbari to ensure safe travel for homebound people and to prevent passenger harassment.

The operation was led by Goalanda Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sathi Das and Executive Magistrate Shahed Khan.

During the drive, they visited the Mahendra stand, bus terminal, launch terminal, and ferry ghat in the Daulatdia ferry area.

At that time, one bus driver and two locally-made vehicle Mahendra drivers were fined a total of Taka 3,000 for charging fares higher than the fixed rate.

The excess money collected from passengers was verified and returned to them.

Additionally, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer and the Executive Magistrate warned all concerned to ensure safe and smooth water and road travel for passengers.
