Teenager dies while celebrating Eid with friends in Raninagar

NAOGAON, March 22, 2026 (BSS) - A teenage boy died after a locally made vehicle (locally known as votvoti) overturned and fell into a pond while he was out celebrating Eid with friends in Raninagar upazila of Naogaon.

The deceased was identified as Md. Hridoy, 12, son of Abdur Razzak of Amirpur village in the upazila.

The accident occurred around 8:45 pm on Saturday near Khagen’s pond on the Bhatkoi–Deula road in the area. 

At least five others were seriously injured in the incident. All the injured are also residents of Amirpur village.

According to sources, a group of youths and teenagers from Amirpur village had gone out on a votvoti ride to celebrate Eid. There were about 18 passengers on board. 

On their way back home around 8:45 pm, the vehicle overturned and fell into a roadside pond near Bhatkoi Khagen’s pond.

At least six people, including Hridoy, were critically injured. Locals rescued them and took Hridoy to a nearby doctor, where he was declared dead. The injured individuals were admitted to Raninagar and Naogaon hospitals for treatment.

Raninagar Police Station inspector (investigation) Babul Paul said he had received information about the accident  and confirmed that one boy had died, while others are undergoing treatment at hospitals.
