4 children drown after floating bridge collapsed in Jamalpur river

JAMALPUR, March 21, 2026 (BSS) - Four children drowned in the river Brahmaputra when a floating drum made bridge on the river collapsed in Dewanganj Upazila this afternoon.

The victims were identified as Abir Hossain,14,  son of Habibullah at village Beltoli, Abdul Motaleb ,6  Khadiza  12   and Maya Moni,10 daughter of Joynal Miah at village Dakatia Para in Dewanganj Upazila of the district.

According to fire service and civil defence the victims along with others boarded on the drum made floating bridge for amusement on the Eid day.

At certain stage ,  the bridge slashed  and collapsed. A number of people including minor children fell into the river and some of them remained missing. 

Hearing the incident a team of fire Service and Civil defence rushed to the spot and recovered the four bodies.

Senior Station Officer, Fire service and civil defence, Sheikh Rabiul Islam Akanda said four bodies recovered in the accident.
