RAJSHAHI, March 24, 2026 (BSS) - The West Zone of Bangladesh Railway has awarded Enamul Haque—who prevented a potential accident involving the Panchagarh Express train yesterday in the East Chandipur area of the Fulbari – Birampur railway route.
The award-giving ceremony was arranged at the conference room of the Rajshahi Railway Building here today with Engineer Farid Ahmed, General Manager of the zone, in the chair.
In a modest ceremony, he was presented with a certificate of honor, a crest, and cash.
Speaking on the occasion, Engineer Farid Ahmed said Enamul Haque through an example of remarkable intelligence and presence of mind saved several hundred passengers from a certain train accident near Birampur.
Following this heroic act, the Prime Minister directed the Western Zone of Bangladesh Railway to honor him. “We have gathered here today to present this recognition,” he added.
He thanked Enamul Haque and noted that people living near railway lines and frequent train travelers often assist the railway authorities by providing important information, which greatly helps in railway operations. “Enamul Haque has done the same for us. We thank him again,” he said.
Expressing his feelings, Enamul Haque said that while walking beside the railway line in the East Chandipur area between Fulbari and Birampur, he noticed that about one foot of the Parbatipur–Fulbari–Dhaka railway track was broken.
Unsure of what to do at first, he quickly asked nearby people to inform the railway office. Then, in place of a red flag, he cut a banana blossom and tied its petals to a stick, standing on the railway line to signal the train.
Within about five minutes, the Panchagarh Express arrived. Seeing his signal, the train stopped at a safe distance. “I feel grateful to have been able to do this and thank Almighty Allah,” he said.
Officials and staff of the Western Zone of Bangladesh Railway were present at the event.
