CUMILLA, Mar 24, 2026 (BSS) - A large number of tourists have flocked to major attractions in the district during the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays, turning the district's historical and cultural landmarks into busy tourist hubs.

Popular destinations such as Shalban Vihar, Mainamati Archaeological Museum, War Cemetery, Dharma Sagar, and the Gomti River banks have seen heavy crowds, with visitors arriving from across the country to enjoy the festive break.

Families, children, and young travellers gathered at these sites to experience Cumilla's rich heritage. The atmosphere has been festive, with many tourists combining leisure with learning about the region's historical significance.

Visitors shared mixed experiences. Imtiaz Ahmed, a teacher from Chandpur, said the trip offered his children a valuable opportunity to learn history firsthand. Others, like Ifti Ahmed, expressed enjoyment in recreational activities and educational visits to museums.

Some tourists also pointed out the need for better guidance systems. Madhuri Debnath said that improved information and directional signage to nearby archaeological sites would enhance the experience.

Despite the challenges, tourist inflow remain high. The riverside recreation spot along the Gomti River has been especially popular, offering shaded areas that provide relief from the heat.

Authorities have taken steps to ensure visitor safety. According to officials, additional tourist police have been deployed, and surveillance has been increased at key locations.

Historically, Shalban Vihar-believed to date back to the 7th or 8th century- is one of the most significant archaeological sites in the Mainamati region and continues to attract visitors from home and abroad.

Officials expect tourist numbers to rise further in the remaining days of the Eid holidays. They emphasized that improved infrastructure and modern facilities would be essential for sustaining growth in Cumilla's tourism sector.

Overall, the district's tourist spots are witnessing a lively blend of celebration, cultural exploration, and communal harmony during this festive period.
