Govt making strides to implement Ziaur Rahman’s vision: Zakaria

CUMILLA, May 30, 2026 (BSS) - Housing and Public Works Minister Zakaria Taher today said the government is working to implement the ideals and vision of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman.

He said this while addressing a daylong free medical camp at Jhalam School and College in Barura Upazila here.

AKM Abu Taher Foundation organized the event marking the 45th martyrdom anniversary of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman.

Describing various development works of Ziaur Rahman, the minister said Ziaur Rahman, the great proclaimer of independence, had established multi-party democracy in the country.

He said the current government is working to ensure people's voting rights and freedom of expression. 

Various initiatives have been undertaken to protect the environment and promote sustainable development through canal excavation and tree-planting programme, he mentioned.

Around 5,000 people from different areas received free medical treatment.

Barura Upazila BNP President Kaisar Alam Selim, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Asaduzzaman Rony, and local political and social leaders were present.
