Hindu community celebrates Astami Snan in Jamalpur

JAMALPUR, March 26, 2026 (BSS) - Hindu community celebrated holy ‘Astami Snan’ with due religious fervor in the district today.

Thousands of ‘Hindu’ devotees from various parts of the country came to the district to observe the religious festival.

Hindu devotees began to dip in the Old Brahmaputra from morning and continued till afternoon.

A Hindu devotee Subal Chandra Das told BSS that from morning Hindu devotees performed the rites in a festive and peaceful atmosphere. He said huge Hindu devotees dipped in the Old Brahmaputra at Chhonkanda area  the outskirts of the town. 

After dip in the old Brahmaputra they performed worship and some of them immolated goats at ‘Doyamoyee’ temple in the town.

President, Astomi Snan and Mela committee, Prodip Kumar Som Ranu said a large number of Hindu devotees performed the religious rites in a festive way. During the festival the law and order situation was well, he added.

Centering the Astami Snan a three-day long folk fair begins adjacent area of the Doyamoyee temple.

A large number of people from irrespective of all sects thronged the fair premises to purchase essential products and locally made various food items.
