RAJSHAHI, March 26, 2026 (BSS) - Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu, MP, has said that a nation which does not honor its most respected individuals and does not duly uphold its heroes can never stand tall with dignity.
Brave freedom fighters are the finest sons of the nation. It is our duty to honor them in all spheres and ensure their rightful status.
He made these remarks as the chief guest at a reception today organized by the district administration at the District Shilpakala Academy auditorium, in honor of brave freedom fighters, families of martyrs, and families of war-wounded freedom fighters, marking the Great Independence and National Day.
The Land Minister said that our beloved independence and national flag were achieved through the immense sacrifices of the freedom fighters.
“At that time, I was a teenager, and like the freedom fighters, a light of hope was ignited in my heart. We wondered, could we do it? When the nation was searching for direction, a voice echoed: ‘I, Major Zia, am speaking—sons of Bengal, take up arms. Defeat the Pakistani occupation forces and join the struggle to achieve the independence of the motherland.’”
Mizanur Rahman Minu added that many contributed, and he did not wish to diminish anyone’s role. However, certain moments leave a deep mark on the heart. Through the collective efforts of all, the nation found new direction and achieved its desired goal.
Millions of our brothers and sisters embraced martyrdom, were injured, and endured torture, while mothers and sisters sacrificed their greatest treasures to achieve the independence of Bangladesh. Bangladesh has sacrificed lives for its mother tongue and for its independence.
The expectation at that time was to build a happy, prosperous, and hunger-free Bangladesh, where children would have access to education, healthcare would be ensured, and people would freely listen to one another.
Through democratic practices, the country would be governed in line with the people’s expectations, with dignity and respect.
Mentioning that the current Prime Minister is the child of a brave freedom fighter, the minister said that his heart and mind are devoted to the people.
Family cards and health cards for women responsible for families will be introduced gradually, and freedom fighters will receive these benefits first.
The agricultural card is universal—not for any political individual, but for everyone. The country belongs to all of us. Bangladesh was achieved in exchange for a sea of blood. "The current government is your government—the government of freedom fighters," he added.
At this time, he expressed his determination to move the country forward by joining hands with one another.
The event was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Afia Akhtar. Special guests included Divisional Commissioner Dr ANM Bazlur Rashid, Rajshahi City Corporation Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton, DIG of Rajshahi Range Mohammad Shahjahan, RMP Commissioner Dr Jillur Rahman, Zila Parishad Administrator Advocate Ershad Ali Isha and Superintendent of Police Mohammad Naimul Hasan, among others.
Among others, present were family members of freedom fighters, officials from various government and non-government offices, brave freedom fighters, and journalists from print and electronic media.
