RAJSHAHI, March 29, 2026 (BSS)- Considering the current situation in the country, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has started monitoring filling stations and depots in Rajshahi to prevent the illegal stockpiling and smuggling of fuel oil.
This initiative began on Sunday under the Rajshahi 1 Battalion of BGB.

There are three oil depots in Rajshahi—Padma, Meghna, and Jamuna. In addition, there are 12 filling stations in the district. Surveillance has started at all of these facilities. Monitoring has also been intensified in the Padma river char areas along the border to prevent fuel smuggling into India.

At around 11:00 am on Sunday, Lieutenant Colonel Riaz Shahriar, Commanding Officer of BGB Rajshahi 1 Battalion, spoke to journalists about the overall situation at the depot area in Shiroil of the city.

He said that BGB has been given special instructions to ensure security at the depots. Accordingly, three platoons of BGB have been deployed at the three depots. The aim is to ensure overall security and maintain fuel supply.

He further said that surveillance is also being conducted at the 12 filling stations. Fuel prices are higher in neighboring India than in Bangladesh.

Taking advantage of the current global situation, an unscrupulous group has been attempting to stockpile fuel and smuggle it across the border for higher profits. To counter this, BGB has increased vigilance along the border.

Riaz Shahriar added that during this critical period, BGB is also providing all kinds of support to the local administration and other law enforcement agencies in Rajshahi, alongside maintaining strict surveillance.
