2 killed, 6 injured in bus-truck collision in Dinajpur

DINAJPUR, March 29, 2026 (BSS) - Two people were killed and at least six others were seriously injured in a road accident in Birampur upazila of the district this morning.

The deceased were identified as Mosharraf Hossain Babu, 57, the bus driver and a resident of Srinagar Upazila and Azizul Islam, 25, the bus helper from Kaharol Upazila in Dinajpur.

The accident occurred around 10:00 am at Chandpur on the Dinajpur-Gobindaganj regional highway when a passenger coach collided head-on with a sand-laden truck, leaving the bus driver and helper dead on the spot and six others injured.

Six injured passengers were initially taken to Birampur Upazila Health Complex. Later, four of the injured were transferred to National Institute of Traumatology & Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR), Dhaka due to their critical condition, while the remaining two were sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.

Inspector (Investigation) Ataur Rahman of Birampur Police Station confirmed the casualties and said that locals, along with fire service personnel and police, carried out rescue operations at the scene.

Authorities have seized both the bus and the truck involved in the accident. Legal proceedings are currently underway, police added.
