Fire in cold storage brought under control

CHATTOGRAM, March 29, 2026 (BSS) - A fire that broke out in a cold storage of BD Foods factory in the Sagarika area of Chattogram city was brought under control by firefighters after about one and a half hours. 

The fire started at 11:40 am today and eight fire service units quickly responded to the scene and worked to contain the fire. By 1:22 pm, the fire was brought under control. 

The cause of the fire is still unknown, and the extent of the damage will be assessed after an investigation. Fire Service Deputy Director Md. Jasim Uddin said that the fire originated in the cold storage number three of BD Foods. The fire was contained within one and a half hours, and further details about the cause and damage are pending investigation, he said, adding that authorities are also checking if any workers were trapped inside the cold storage during the incident. 

He also mentioned that over 2,000 tons of fish are currently stored in the cold storage facility. Along with firefighting efforts, measures are being taken to regulate the temperature inside the storage unit. 

Firefighters have taken three key actions: clearing out fish cartons, eliminating smoke, and lowering the cold storage temperature.
