
DHAKA, March 29, 2026 (BSS)- A delegation led by Jean Pesme, World Bank Division Director for Bangladesh and Bhutan, paid a courtesy call on Minister of Agriculture, and Fisheries and Livestock Mohammad Aminur Rashid today at the conference room of the agriculture ministry.
At the outset, the Agriculture Minister welcomed the World Bank delegation, and the delegation members congratulated the minister on assuming office as a member of the cabinet.
The minister said that an initiative has been taken to introduce "Farmer Card" for farmers, which will be implemented across the country in phases. This year, the programme will be launched experimentally in 11 blocks across various districts, he said, adding that it will gradually be expanded nationwide.
This card will ensure the protection of farmers' interests, increase production, and guarantee sustainable development of the sector, he added.
World Bank representatives expressed interest in increasing investment in the agricultural sector, particularly in supplying agricultural inputs, processing agricultural products, and cooperating in market development. The minister welcomed the World Bank's proposal.
During the meeting, representatives of the ministry and the World Bank expressed optimism about further strengthening mutual cooperation for the sustainable development of the agricultural sector and improving the living standards of farmers.
