Twin brothers drown in Cumilla

CUMILLA, March 29, 2026 (BSS) - Four-year-old twin brothers drowned in a ditch at their maternal grandfather's house in Jiruin area under Sahebabad union of Brahmanpara upazila in the district today.

The deceased were identified as Oli and Ali, sons of Tara Mia of Ghilatala area in neighboring Burichang upazila.

Family and local sources said the twin had come to visit their maternal grandfather, Babul Mia, a local milk trader. Around noon, the brothers were playing in the courtyard of the house. After they went missing for a while, family members began searching for them.

At one stage, the bodies of the two brothers were found floating in a shallow ditch dug in a paddy field near the house.

Local Union Parishad (UP) member Zakir Hossain confirmed the incident, describing it as a tragic loss. He expressed deep sympathy for the bereaved family and urged parents to be more vigilant about their children's safety to prevent such accidental drowning.

Inspector (Investigation) of Brahmanpara Police Station, Thomas Barua, stated that no formal complaint has been lodged yet, the police will investigate the matter if informed officially.
