10 held with large quantity of potatoes while smuggling to Myanmar

DHAKA, March 29, 2026 (BSS) - The Coast Guard has arrested 10 smugglers along with a large quantity of potatoes while they were being smuggled to Myanmar.

Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon confirmed the matter this afternoon.

On information, at around 8:00 am, a special operation was conducted by Coast Guard ship 'Joy Bangla' in the sea area adjacent to the Sangu Gas Field in Chattogram. During the operation, a suspicious fishing boat was searched and approximately 22,500 kilograms of potatoes worth about Tk 11.5 lakh, 230 liters of diesel and the fishing boat used for smuggling were seized. Ten smugglers involved in the activity were also arrested, he said.

He added that necessary legal procedures against the detainees, as well as the seized goods and boat, are currently underway.
