SANGSAD BHABAN, March 29, 2026 (BSS) – State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque today said the government is set to make sports compulsory from Class IV starting from the next academic year.

Responding to a question from a Member of Parliament elected from Chattogram-16, Zahidul Islam, the state minister said the initiative is part of the ruling party’s election manifesto.

“Initially, the programme will be launched with seven sporting events, with plans to gradually include more disciplines over time,” he said.

He added that the government aims to give equal importance to sports alongside academic studies to ensure the overall development of students.

He emphasised that the move is intended to reduce children’s dependence on digital devices, while encouraging greater participation in physical activities.

Aminul expressed hope that the initiative would have a positive impact on students’ physical and mental well-being.
