SANGSAD BHABAN, March 29, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Youth and Sports
Md. Aminul Haque today said that the government would investigate the alleged
irregularities involving officials and employees recruited at the Bangladesh
Cricket Board (BCB) during the past 16 years of Awami League regime.
Replying to a supplementary question from BNP lawmaker Mosharraf Hossain in
Parliament today, the state minister said a probe committee would be formed
soon to examine claims of irregular and politically influenced appointments
made since 2008.
He alleged that individuals were recruited through partisan considerations
and that those involved would be identified and exposed before the nation
following an investigation.
"You will be surprised to know that BCB's financial and human resources were
allegedly used in the past to support a group in depriving people of their
voting rights," he said, adding that officials and employees found involved
in wrongdoing would face action after due investigation.
Earlier, Mosharraf Hossain, MP, from Bogura-4, questioned whether those
linked to alleged misuse of BCB resources during the 2018 and 2024 elections
would be brought to justice.
He claimed that during the previous government, recruitment processes favored
politically affiliated and unqualified individuals.
In response, Aminul Haque said that during the previous administration,
sports - including cricket - had been heavily politicised, leading to
stagnation in the country's sports arena. The current government is working
to depoliticise sports in line with the Prime Minister's directives, he
added.
The state minister also noted that concerns regarding the personal wealth of
some allegedly corrupt BCB officials had come to his attention.
Aminul said he would request the Director General (DG) of the Anti-Corruption
Commission (ACC) to share any ongoing investigation findings with the
ministry so that the matter can be presented transparently before the public.
