JASHORE, Mar 29, 2026 (BSS)- Jessore University of Science and Technology (JUST) has announced a 12-point plan for electricity and fuel conservation as part of national austerity measures amid the global energy crisis.

The measures were adopted at an urgent meeting in line with directives from the Cabinet Division, Ministry of Education, and the University Grants Commission (UGC), and approved by the 113th Regent Board of the university, a press release of the university said.

JUST treasurer and committee convener Professor Dr Hosain Al Mamun presided over the meeting.

The meeting decided that all departments and offices must maximize the use of natural light during daytime and refrain from using electric lights, fans, or air conditioners unnecessarily.

Strict instructions were given to switch off all electrical equipment when leaving offices or rooms, and to avoid lighting corridors and staircases.

Use of air conditioners has been discouraged, except in laboratories with advanced equipment, where air condition can operate on a limited basis but must be set at 25°C or above.

All decorative lighting inside the campus will remain switched off, alternative arrangements are recommended for events instead of gallery use, and long-distance university transport will be limited.

The university has also emphasized the use of energy-efficient equipment across campus. To ensure implementation, two monitoring groups have been formed for regular supervision.

The university will raise awareness among students, faculty, and staff through stand banners and leaflets across campus.
