Woman dies in Barishal road crash

BARISHAL, March 29, 2026 (BSS) - A woman was killed and three others were injured after a passenger bus lost control and plunged into a roadside ditch on the Dhaka–Barishal highway in  Gournadi upazila of the district early this morning.

The accident occurred around 5:15 am near Batajor Bazar, according to local authorities.

The deceased was identified as Iti, 35, wife of Gurudas Chakraborty, a resident of the Kaunia area in Barishal city. The injured are deceased’s daughter Upma Chakraborty, 16, her husband Gurudas Chakraborty, 60, and another passenger Pabitra Majumdar, 50.

Police said a bus of Green View Paribahan lost control while passing through the Batajor Bazar area and fell into a roadside ditch.

Officer-in-Charge of Gournadi Highway Police Station confirmed that four passengers were rescued in critical condition and rushed to the Upazila Health Complex. Doctors later declared one of them dead. One of the injured has been transferred to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital for better treatment.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident.
