Two killed, 15 injured in Gazipur road accident

GAZIPUR, April 5, 2026 (BSS) - Two people were killed and at least 15 others injured in a road accident on the Dhaka-Tangail highway in the Konabari area of Gazipur this evening.

The deceased, identified as Maulana Alim Uddin, 34, an imam of a mosque in Ward No. 11, Kaler Vita Purba Para, died on the spot.

Another victim later died at a hospital. The identity of the second victim could not be confirmed.

The accident occurred around 7:00 pm when a passenger minibus collided with the rear of a stationary and rod-laden truck on the Konabari flyover, disrupting traffic for nearly an hour.

Police and eyewitnesses said the Takwa Paribahan minibus was travelling from Chandana Chowrasta to Chandra in Kaliakair when it hit the broken-down truck standing on the flyover, leaving the vehicle's front badly mangled.

Maulana Alim Uddin was killed on the spot in the accident. Later, the injured were rescued and taken to various hospitals and clinics, where another person died while undergoing treatment. Several of the injured are reported to be in critical condition.

Police said taking of legal action in connection with the accident is underway.
