DHAKA, April 5, 2026 (BSS) - Rescue operations are continuing at the site of the devastating fire that broke out at a tin-shed gas lighter factory in the Kadamtali Gol Chattar area of Keraniganj, where the death toll has risen to six.

Members of the Fire Service and Civil Defence are conducting intensive search efforts amid concerns that more victims may still be trapped under the debris.

Rescue teams, supported by local law enforcement and volunteers, are carefully clearing the burned structure while maintaining safety precautions to prevent further risks.

The rescue operation has been ongoing since the fire was brought under control on Saturday afternoon, a media officer of the Fire Service confirmed.

Authorities said firefighters are using specialized equipment to sift through the wreckage, as parts of the tin-shed structure remain unstable.

At least two injured individuals have already been rescued and taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Their conditions have not yet been officially disclosed.

Officials on-site informed that the priority remains locating any remaining victims and ensuring the area is fully secured.

Additional personnel have been deployed to speed up the rescue work, while an emergency response coordination team is overseeing the operation.

Meanwhile, a five-member probe committee has already begun preliminary work alongside the rescue efforts to determine the cause of the blaze and identify any safety lapses.

Authorities have urged the public to avoid the area to allow emergency teams to operate without disruption.

Further updates are expected as the rescue mission progresses.
