DHAKA, April 5, 2026 (BSS) – The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) has seized an unauthorized drone flying over the VIP area of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA), warning of legal action as part of strict enforcement of restricted airspace regulations.

The drone was confiscated around 8:30 pm on April 4 while it was being used to record footage near the airport’s VIP Pole Gate, coinciding with the arrival of the Bangladesh Under-20 football team from the SAFF Championship, according to a CAAB press release here today.

Airport areas are designated as ‘Red Zone’ under the Drone Registration and Flight Policy 2020, where drone operations are strictly prohibited without special permission from the relevant authority, it said.

The seized device was identified as a DJI Mavic 4 Pro, a high-end consumer drone capable of professional-grade video recording.

CAAB confirmed that the operator had no prior clearance to operate the drone within the airport perimeter.

Under the policy, airports fall within highly restricted zones to safeguard aviation safety and prevent interference with aircraft operations.

CAAB said necessary legal action would be taken against those involved in such unauthorized activities to ensure overall airport security.

The authority also urged the people to strictly comply the existing rules in this regard, said the press release.
