Smuggled goods, drugs seized in border drives

DHAKA, Sept 5, 2026 (BSS) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized Indian electric resistors, smuggled goods, cannabis and yaba pills in separate drives along the borders today.
 
The paramilitary force tonight issued five separate press releases with details of the drives.

In Rajshahi, a patrol team of Shahapur Border Outpost under Rajshahi Battalion (1 BGB) seized 5,000 Indian electric resistors from an abandoned polythene packet in Shyampur Balurghat area under Katakhali Police Station at around 4:45am.

The suspected smuggler fled the scene upon chase and legal action is underway, said a press release.

In Lalmonirhat, a patrol team of Gorok Mondol Border Outpost seized 17 kilograms of Indian cannabis and a battery-powered auto-rickshaw from Balatari in Fulbari upazila of Kurigram on Friday evening. Market value of the seized contraband is Tk 2.69 lakh. The smugglers, however, managed flee leaving vehicle behind.

Meanwhile, Jashore Battalion (49 BGB) seized 145 Indian sarees, two kilograms of cumin, 80 packets of fuchka, 6.5 kilograms of raisins, 650 packets of food items, 266 chocolates and 1,026 cosmetics worth Tk 18.18 lakh in separate drives along the border.

In Cox's Bazar, a patrol team of Rezukhali check-post under 34 BGB arrested a man and recovered 1,850 Burmese yaba tablets and a button phone from his possession at around 2pm.

In separate drive, Ramu Battalion (30 BGB) seized 4,000 Burmese yaba tablets and arrested a motorcycle rider at Morichya joint check-post at around 6pm.

The total value of the seized items in the two Cox's Bazar drives was Tk 14.20 lakh, including the motorcycle and mobile phone, said the press release.

The BGB said intelligence and anti-smuggling operations would continue along the border.
