NAOGAON, April 13, 2026 (BSS) - Agricultural incentive materials were distributed among farmers in Raninagar upazila of the district on Monday, aiming to boost crop production during the Kharip-1 season.

Local Member of Parliament (MP) Sheikh Md. Rezaul Islam inaugurated the programme as the chief guest at the Upazila Parishad (UP) auditorium. The event was organised by the Upazila Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) and presided over by Upazila Nirbahi Officer  (UNO) Rakibul Hasan.

Speaking at the event, Sheikh Md. Rezaul Islam highlighted the growing challenge of increasing population alongside shrinking cultivable land.

He stressed the importance of utilizing high-yield crop varieties and properly distributing government-provided agricultural inputs.

He said that only genuine farmers, who will actively cultivate crops, should receive these incentives.

Under the 2025–26 fiscal year programme, free seeds and fertilizers are being distributed among small and  marginal farmers to promote the cultivation of jute, Ufshi Aush paddy, summer moong, and summer sesame.

According to the Upazila Agriculture Department, a total of 2,100 farmers from eight unions are receiving assistance for Ufshi Aush cultivation. Each farmer is being provided with five kilograms (KGs)  of seeds, 10-kg of DAP fertilizer, and 10- kg of MOP fertilizer for one bigha of land.

Additionally, 20 farmers are receiving support for summer moong cultivation, 30 farmers for sesame cultivation, and 50 farmers for jute cultivation, each with varying quantities of seeds and fertilizers. Six farmers are also being provided with air flow machines as part of the initiative.

The programme is part of the government’s Agricultural Rehabilitation Assistance efforts to enhance crop production and ensure food security in the region.
