Lightning strike kills two in Jamalpur

JAMALPUR, April 26, 2026 (BSS) - Two persons were killed by lightning in separate incidents in the district this afternoon.

The victims were identified as Hasmat Ali, 45, son of Habibar Rahman Mandol at village Char Jatharthapur in Jamalpur Sadar Upazila and Marjina Begum, 22, wife of Rajib at village Koroichara in Melandah Upazila of the district.

Police said Hasmat Ali was shepherding cow home as heavy rain fell. On the way lightning struck him, leaving him critically injured. He was rushed to Jamalpur General Hospital where doctor on duty declared him dead.

Marjina Begum was cooking food in the home yard. But suddenly rain began and she was hit by a thunderbolt. She died on way to hospital.
