Fisherman killed by lightning strike in Netrokona

NETROKONA, April 27, 2026 (BSS) - A fisherman was killed after being struck by lightning while fishing in the Dhanu River in Khaliajuri upazila of the district on Monday morning.

The deceased was identified as Abdul Motalib, 46, son of late Abdur Rahman, a resident of Garakandi village under Ishwarganj upazila in Mymensingh district. 

According to witnesses, the incident occurred around 9:00 am near Jagannathpur Ferry Ghat. 

Mujibur Rahman, one of Motalib's companions, said that shortly after they began fishing, Motalib was struck by lightning and collapsed instantly.
His companions rushed to assist him but found that he had already died at the scene.

Khaliajuri Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Nasiruddin confirmed the incident.
