RAJSHAHI, May 02, 2026 (BSS) - Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton today inspected ongoing drain cleaning activities across the city aimed at preventing waterlogging during the upcoming monsoon.

The administrator visited several areas to monitor the removal of mud from primary and secondary drains using excavators and manual labour.

During the inspection, he instructed officials concerned to expedite the work to ensure the drainage system remains functional ahead of the rainy season.

He said the government has assigned responsibility to ensure civic services and development, adding that efforts are underway round the clock in line with directives from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

As part of the initiative, mud is being removed from drains using both heavy machinery and workers. Authorities will also continue operations at night in areas where necessary to ease waterlogging in the city.

Riton urged residents to cooperate by maintaining cleanliness, saying indiscriminate dumping of waste into drains must be avoided to keep the drainage system effective.

RCC Chief Executive Officer Md. Rezaul Karim, Chief Conservancy Officer Sheikh Md. Mamun, Deputy Chief Conservancy Officer Selim Reza Ranju and other officials of the conservancy department were present during the visit.
