
NARAYANGANJ, May 2, 2026 (BSS) - A dredging initiative to resolve persistent water-logging in Fatullah area of the district began today.
Zila Parishad Administrator Mamun Mahmud inaugurated the dredging works at the DIT field this afternoon.
Speaking as the chief guest, Mamun Mahmud said government efforts alone are not enough to resolve the water-logging crisis.
He stressed the need for public awareness and urged citizens to refrain from dumping waste indiscriminately in order to protect the environment.
He also called on industrial establishments to act responsibly, saying that factory owners must ensure that industrial waste does not enter canals and rivers.
He further said the initiative has been undertaken as part of the 31-point programme announced by the BNP and in continuation of a nationwide canal re-excavation drive led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
Among others, Narayanganj Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer SM Foyez Uddin, Additional Superintendent of Police Hasinuzzaman, Fatullah Thana BNP unit President Shahidul Islam Titu, General Secretary Bari Bhuiya, Organizational Secretary Riad Mohammad Chowdhury, along with local BNP leaders and activists, were present at the event.
Local residents welcomed the initiative and expressed hope that timely implementation of the project would provide a lasting solution to the area's persistent water-logging problem and help reduce suffering during the monsoon season.
