BHOLA, May 2, 2026 (BSS) - A powerful Nor'wester (Kalbaishakhi) swept through the district today, causing widespread destruction, uprooting trees and disrupting the entire power supply system.

The storm, which struck suddenly around 2:00pm today, uprooted two 50-year-old rain trees within the Bhola Sadar Upazila compound, which fell across the main road.

The falling trees snapped power lines and destroyed guide walls and billboards, completely halting traffic in the area. Similar reports of uprooted trees and blocked roads have emerged from various other upazilas and rural areas across the district.

The district-wide power outage, caused by snapped cables and uprooted electric poles, has left thousands of families in immense distress.

Soon after the storm subsided, the Fire Service and local administration began clearing debris to restore traffic.

Md. Majedur Rahman, Senior Engineer of West Zone Power Distribution Company in Bhola, told BSS that repair work is underway on a priority basis to restore the power supply as quickly as possible.

Earlier, a separate storm late Friday night devastated the coastal Dhalchar area in the southernmost part of the district. At least 30 houses were badly damaged, leaving many families under the open sky.

Char Fasson Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Rumana Afroz assured that necessary assistance would be provided to those affected.

Bhola Deputy Commissioner Dr. Shamim Rahman told the media that a list of affected families across the district is being prepared, and the government will provide all necessary support to those hit by the natural disaster.
