MANIKGANJ, May 2, 2026 (BSS) - Lawmaker Engineer Moinul Islam Khan Shanto has said the government will take strict action against drug peddling, terrorism and illegal toll collection.

He warned that no one will be spared, regardless of political affiliation.

Moinul, lawmaker from the Manikganj-2 constituency, made the remarks while inaugurating a geo bag dumping project on the Kalitola River in Kanchonpur Union under Harirampur Upazila. The project aims to prevent riverbank erosion in the area.

Moinul said about 60 meters of the Kalitola River is currently at risk. He added that protection work will continue there. He also noted that around 12 kilometers along the Padma River are vulnerable to erosion. Work on that stretch is expected to begin next year.

The event was chaired by Water Development Board Executive Engineer Muhammad Aktaruzzan. Among others, speakers included District Council Administrator Advocate Jamilur Rashid Khan and Harirampur Upazila BNP leader Shamim Ahmed.
