RAJSHAHI, May 2, 2026 (BSS) - The "Notun Kuri Sports-2026" was officially inaugurated in Rajshahi today, along with the rest of the country.
The main inauguration ceremony was led by the Prime Minister Tarique Rahman from Sylhet District Stadium. The event was shown live on a large screen at Rajshahi District Muktijuddho Smriti Stadium.
Several dignitaries attended the program in Rajshahi. They included MPs Advocate Shafiqul Haque Milan, Professor Nazrul Islam and Abu Sayeed Chand. Also present were Rajshahi City Corporation Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton, District Council Administrator Advocate Ershad Ali Esha and RDA Chairman Tuhinul Alam.
After the ceremony, the guests met the young players and encouraged them.
"Notun Kuri Sports" has been launched under the government's election manifesto. The goal is to develop skilled athletes from the grassroots to the national level.
Children aged 12 to 14 are taking part in eight events: football, cricket, kabaddi, athletics, badminton, chess, martial arts and swimming.
The competition started today with kabaddi and will continue until May 9.
