Accused in Sonamia murder case arrested in Satkhira

KHULNA, May 7, 2026 (BSS) - Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-6 has arrested the prime accused in the murder case of Jatiyatabadi Tantidal leader Sonamia.

The arrested was Md Ohidul Islam, 45, the son of Khondokar Sultan Ahmed of Goalkhali area under Khulna city's Khalishpur Police Station.

According to a press release issued by RAB-6 this evening, a special operational team of the elite force conducted a raid in the Tulshi Danga 
Tanipara area under Kalaroa Police Station in Satkhira district at around 12:15 pm today based on secret information and arrested Ohidul.

According to RAB, Ohidul is the main accused in the sensational murder case of Tantidal leader Sonamia that took place under Khalishpur Police Station of 
Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) on April 12.

A review of his previous criminal records revealed that 10 cases had been filed against him with Khalishpur, Sonadanga and Sadar police stations in 
Khulna metropolis. The cases include one attempted murder case, one gambling case and eight narcotics cases.

RAB also identified him as a listed drug trader in the Khalishpur area.

The arrested accused was later handed over to Kalaroa Police Station in Satkhira for further legal action, the release added.
